About WiFi Speed
A free speed test and a plain-English library of home networking guides, written by people who actually run the gear.
What we do
WiFi Speed exists to answer a simple question: why is your internet slower than it should be, and how do you fix it? We run a free, no-signup browser speed test, and we write detailed guides that cut through marketing speak about routers, mesh systems, WiFi standards, and troubleshooting.
How we test
Every router and mesh system we review is tested in a real home environment — not a shielded lab. We measure throughput at multiple distances and through different wall materials, track long-running latency and jitter under load, and stress-test with real-world workloads like 4K streaming, video calls, and cloud gaming. Where we rank products, we rank by tested performance, not by spec sheets.
Editorial independence
We accept no payment to review a product and no vendor has editorial input on our recommendations. Some links on the site are affiliate links — if you buy through them we may earn a small commission, which helps us keep the speed test free and the guides paywall-free. Our affiliate disclosure has the details.
Who writes WiFi Speed
Derek Mason
Editor-in-Chief
Derek Mason has spent over a decade working with wireless networks, starting as a field technician for a regional WISP and later leading customer engineering at a mesh router startup. He holds a CCNA and has tested more than 200 routers, mesh systems, and WiFi adapters in real-world home environments. At WiFi Speed, Derek writes and edits guides on router configuration, troubleshooting, and WiFi standards, with a focus on turning vendor jargon into practical advice anyone can use.
